Press Release: Changes Are Coming to Threshold Community Program!

After 21 impactful years, Threshold Community Program (Threshold) will be closing its full-day, full-year program in June 2026 and shifting to a more flexible service delivery model.

Since its founding in 2005, Threshold has set a high standard for providing comprehensive, humanistic, and transformative education, therapeutic and transition-to-adulthood support for neurodivergent adolescents and young adults. We’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of families and training hundreds of professionals, consistently demonstrating that prioritizing social-emotional development and growth leads to stronger educational, therapeutic, and life outcomes for individuals and families alike.

Like many independent non-profit therapeutic schools, Threshold has operated with a funding model in which tuition for the full-day, year-long program covers only 75% of the cost of services, with the remaining 25% supported through fundraising and grants. Our work relies on highly trained professionals and intentionally very low staff-to-student ratios to provide truly transformative support. As the economic, political, and cultural landscape continues to shift, we’ve taken time to reflect on the best way to ensure the long-term sustainability of our mission to our community.

We’ve recognised that while demand for full-day, year-long support programs remains strong at both ends of the service spectrum — from fully individualised support (very expensive) to more generalised support of larger groups (much lower cost models) — Threshold’s current program does not fit into either of these evolving categories. Rather than compromise on the quality, inclusivity or accessibility of our work, we are choosing to evolve to better serve our community.

Beginning in June 2026, Threshold will shift to provide service and support utilizing trusted private practices and community-based organizations that share our same mission and expertise. Most notably, a new entity, Threshold Community Partners, will be created from many of our current service providers to fill this role.

Threshold Community Partners will continue to honor our legacy of therapeutic and educational support, while expanding both our flexibility and reach. These providers will offer an array of individualized services, including individual and group therapy, customized educational intervention, programming and planning, comprehensive assessments, training of professionals and complex case consultations and management. In collaboration with Threshold Community Partners, we will be able to provide more flexible services at a wider range of price points, with the same quality and care that has been our hallmark for these many years.

With a significant endowment at the outset, as well as the contribution of ongoing annual fundraising and a commitment to growing the endowment, Threshold will continue our dedicated mission to our community, with a greater ability to uphold our commitment to equity, access, and innovation for all neurodivergent individuals and their families.

This next chapter reflects both our values and our vision. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished and inspired by what’s ahead.
